چکیده

Abstract Background Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the most common nosocomial infection. Red cell distribution width (RDW) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are prognostic factors to mortality in different diseases. The aim of this study evaluate efficiency RDW, NLR, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score for prediction respiratory patients with VAP. Results One hundred thirty-six mechanically ventilated developed VAP were included. Clinical characteristics SOFA on day admission at diagnosis VAP, NLR assessed correlated mortality. average age was 58.80 ± 10.53. These variables had a good diagnostic performance AUC 0.811 0.777 0.728 0.840 combined RDW. combination three parameters demonstrated excellent (AUC 0.889). A positive correlation found between RDW ( r = 0.446, P < 0.000) 0.220, 0.010). Conclusions non-specific inflammatory markers that could be calculated quickly easily via routine hemogram examination. have comparable accuracy severity scores. Consequently, simple, yet promising ICU physicians monitoring clinical course, assessment organ dysfunction, predicting patients. Therefore, recommends use blood biomarkers one simplest (SOFA score) rapid critical as daily works ICU.

Factors Predicting Ventilator Dependence in Patients with Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia

OBJECTIVES To determine risk factors associated with ventilator dependence in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). STUDY DESIGN A retrospective study was conducted at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung, from January 1, 2007 to January 31, 2008. METHODS This study evaluated 163 adult patients (aged ≥ 18 years). Eligibility was evaluated according to the criterion for VAP...

Prognostic Risk Factors in Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia

BACKGROUND Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a nosocomial infection commonly seen in patients in intensive care units (ICU). This study aimed to analyze factors affecting prognosis of patients diagnosed with VAP. MATERIAL AND METHODS Critically ill patients with VAP were retrospectively evaluated between June 2002 and June 2011 in the ICU. VAP diagnosis was made according to 2005 ATS/IDS...

Effect of vitamin D supplementation on procalcitonin as prognostic biomarker in patients with ventilator associated pneumonia complicated with vitamin D deficiency

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a common and serious problem that develops after more than 48 hours of mechanical ventilation. Improving the activity of immune system with vitamin D, and its consequent impact on prognostic biomarkers of VAP was studied in the current study. A randomized double blind placebo controlled clinical trial was designed. A total of 46 patients with VAP, who w...
